What is Reiki?
"Prana" = energy, life-force
"Rei" = light
"Ki" = "chi", "prana", energy, or "life-force".
Reiki, is a Japanese healing technique, and a term dating back to around the turn of the twentieth century, is used in many hospitals and cancer wards to bring relief and healing to their patients. You might know it as "Healing Hands." No matter what you call it, Reiki is a POWERFUL form of healing for the body, the psyche, and the Soul.
Meghan Hays is a Reiki Level 3 Master and has trained with Dr. Marc Halpern at the California College of Ayurveda in Ayurveda Marma Point Therapy and Pranic Healing. Both Pranic Healing and Reiki are techniques for stress reduction and relaxation, which promote healing in the physical, subtle, and spiritual bodies.
Reiki is based on the concept of "life force", which runs through our bodies and makes us alive, animate, or conscious. When our energy is low or blocked, we can feel sick, stressed, or unable to move forward in life. An energetic healing session helps this life force flow through your body at an optimal level to promote healing, clarity, and relief from physical, mental, and emotional suffering. Energetic medicine is not a religion and can be used in conjunction with all other Western and Eastern medical and therapeutic techniques to relieve affliction, side effects, and suffering, related to diseases and the stresses of daily living.
These unique practices involve light touch or no touch (up to the client) and is ideal for anyone, in any physical condition. Many clients leave feeling more clear-headed--feel more like themselves, experience improved sleep and less pain, and are able to move forward in certain areas of their lives in which they might have felt "stuck".
In a Reiki session, the practitioner directs this "life force," or healing energy, to the physical and subtle, or energetic bodies, depending on where the patient, or client, needs assistance and healing. We hold injuries, emotions, memories, thoughts, and even past life experiences in our subtle body. The energetic practitioner can direct energy to the appropriate areas to assist in relieving pain, releasing stuck stress, letting go of emotional "baggage", and bringing clearing and healing life force, or energy, to the body and mind. Depending on the client's needs and extent of the injury or illness, a client might need only one session for relief, or (s)he might need ongoing treatment for lasting relief and deep healing.
Anyone can learn Reiki; it has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds. Each protocol works around the major area of the complaint or disease, as well as points around the body, which correspond to the area of pain or disfunction. For instance, in a lower back pain protocol, the points we work on are, obviously, on the lower back, but we also work around the front and back of the lower pelvic region and on certain points of the head, which correspond to general spinal alignment.
Energetic body work (also called "pranic healing" or "Reiki") moves energy in and through your body in order to stimulate your natural healing process on a cellular level. This type of healing is even used in hospitals in the United States, especially in cancer wards, and is often called "Healing Hands." Marma Point Therapy works on 107 energetic points on the body to move stagnant, excessive, or deficient energy through the energetic and subtle channels of the body (called "nadis"), Marma Point Therapy has assisted in healing pain, injury, illness, and even the most debilitating of diseases, like Parkinson's and MS.
What's the difference between Reiki and Marma Point Therapy?
A Reiki session is a more general, energetic and spiritual healing session that mainly works on the seven chakras (energy centers that correspond to major gatherings of nerve ganglia in the body) to balance general energy, or prana (also called "chi" or "ki"), in the body.
Marma Point Therapy more closely targets specific health challenges by working on 107 different energetic points on the body and takes longer to administer (Marma Therapy is only offered in 90-minute sessions; whereas Reiki sessions range from 60 to 90 minutes depending upon the needs of the client). Marma Point Therapy involves Reiki energy healing in that the 7 chakras are the main marma points, along with the other 100 energetic, or "marma," points on the body.
What If I'm Just Stressed Out, I Need Work on My Whole Body, or I'm Just Not Sure???
I can also perform a very general protocol for the whole body and mind, called "General Pranic Healing." This is a fantastic introduction, especially if you've never experienced energy work or Reiki. This protocol works specifically on 7 chakra points along the spine (chakras are nerve bundles corresponding to specific organs and bodily systems), as well as down all 4 limbs and their major points (shoulders, elbows, wrists, palms, hips, knees, ankles, and soles of the feet). This process involves no oil or massage--it is simply the gentle placement of hands on the points of the body listed above. This offering can help with chronic pain in all parts of the body, fatigue, stress, anxiety, insomnia, and normalizing energy levels, and it generally leaves you feeling more like yourself.
